ADULT ADOPTIONS:
An adult is allowed in California to adopt another adult. The adopting adult and the adult adoptee enter into a written agreement that is filed with the court.
Because an adult adoption is essentially a contract between the adopting parent and the adoptee, a home study is not usually required and the adoptee’s biological parents do not normally need to consent or be notified.
After the adoption, the adopting parent and the adoptee have the legal relation of parent and child, as in any other adoption.
